media industries are known as media sectors - these are the main areas the media operates within

- magazine - newspapers - tv - games - film - web based/social media - radio and music

conglomerate - large organization that owns smaller companies(subsidiaries)

independent - is free from conglomerate ownership

eg - Warp Film

Commercial company - objective is making profit - has adverts

public service company -  funded by public money - e.g. tv license fee - BBC

content is for a variety of cultures and all audiences

BBC remit - inform, educate, entetain
